This system detects whether the domain name is actively being used. Active meaning that there is a Web Site already online. It may display a domain that is already owned or registered but not active, as "Available". To double check click the domain name and see if a web page is displayed.

Some Domain Names are purchased, registered and then shelved or put up for sale. You may find after clicking a domain, that it is shown as available, you are transferred to a Domain Name service that holds that Domain Name. It may be up for sale, but this will be in an open market situation. The cost may be significantly higher than a Domain Name that is not registered.
You can buy un-registered .co.uk domain names for as low as £1.99 and .com £8.99. So bear that in mind if you decide to buy a domain name that is already registered, some are many thousands of pounds.
It is not always best to have a domain name that simply mirrors your company's or organisation's name. This does depend on the type of service you offer or the type of site you have in mind. For example, if you expect to attract most visitors from a search engine or use conventional advertising where a short catchy name might be better.
A ".com" domain will cost more and not always be necessary, depending on your location, intended ordinance or market. If you offer a service that is not world wide but contained to a country or area then using the local country domain like ".co.uk" or ".au" etc is perfectly OK. We have found, in recent years, that the domain is not as important as the name attached to it and in particular the content.
Check carefully by searching that you are not buying a similar name to another site that has similar content.
